Taylor Swift, full Taylor Alison Swift. American singer/songwriter who's had great success with the tales that she shares about her childhood heartbreak. Swift started to exhibit an desire to work in the music industry at a young age. Swift's career grew rapidly from children's play roles, through her first public appearance in front of thousands. Swift began writing music in the teen years. She performed The Star-Spangled Banner for a Philadelphia 76ers game. Drawing inspiration from popular country artists like Shania Twain and the Dixie Chicks (now the Chicks) Swift crafted original songs that were a reflection of her own experiences of tween alienation. Swift's family moved to Tennessee from Pennsylvania at the age of 13, so that she would have more time pursuing country music labels in Nashville.
